Welcome, Autumn!
My favorite season of the year is finally here – autumn. The air is beginning to get crisp as the days grow shorter. Soon we will be getting out our coziest sweaters and socks and sipping tea and cocoa while reading a book by the fire (or, in my case, faux fireplace).
It still feels warm and sunny during the daytime here, and since we weren’t able to really enjoy summer this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I am still spending some time enjoying dipping my toes in the ocean and soaking up the sunshine. However, a few weeks ago, I did do one of my favorite autumn activities: I walked through our downtown’s historic district and admired all of the beautiful old Victorian-era homes. They are fabulous and I want to live in one someday!

I mean, come on – this is a statue situated outside one of the homes. With her Mona Lisa smile, she is definitely keeping a secret. But what could it be?

There is something that just feels so magical about this part of town. Perhaps its the age of the buildings, or perhaps the trees and plants that give it a fresh autumn take. Whatever it is, I know this will be a tradition for years to come.

Naturally, any tradition has your favorites, and while I love the yellow home pictured above, I have a deep attachment to the Cope House for some reason. I think it’s because it reminds me so much of the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland. It’s just similar enough to bring a spooky feeling to the neighborhood while maintaining its beauty and class. However, a little spooky is a good thing, especially with October just around the corner…
I know traditions are looking a little different for all of us this year, but do what you can to hold onto the ones you can. It’s little moments like a walk down a historic street that can really bring some fun into this hectic time.
Do you have Victorian homes in your town? What are your favorite autumn traditions?
xoxo, Caryn
