2019 Book Recommendations | Friday Five

Hello all, and happy first Friday of 2019! If you’re anything like me, you are hoping to read more books and broaden more horizons in the coming year. I know I want to make a little dent in my reading list this year.

I want to share some books I love with you, one I’m still currently reading, and I hope you will enjoy them just as much as I do. So, without further ado, here are my first five recommendations to you for the year of 2019:

one | the little book of hygge by meik wiking

Ahhhh, hygge. Pronounced “hoo-gah,” hygge is the Danish art of creating intimacy, in cozy spaces, genuine connections, togetherness in a soothing setting. It is what I have truly strived to create in our home for the last year, and it has helped me create a home space I truly enjoy living in. Furthermore, I have taken more time to be present, which has helped in my happiness and mental well-being. I highly recommend this one!

two|chasing slow by erin loechner

This is the one I’m still reading, but this book is a visually interesting, part-memoir-part-guidebook to finding peace and living a slower life. If you’re looking to slow down this year, this may just be the book for you!

three|anne of green gables by l.m. montgomery

This book is so beautifully written, it never gets old. I didn’t read Anne as a child, but reading this now brings me back to my childhood and the vivid imagination I had. Anne seems a kindred spirit to me, and I will revisit this book again, to be sure. If you’re looking for simplicity in this crazy world, this classic is the one for you.

four | homebody: a guide to creating spaces you never want to leave by joanna gaines

Home… what a magical place. I have been working hard to declutter, refresh, and create a home we love, and with finding my love for farmhouse design, this book was a natural pick for me. Joanna knows how to style homes to make them both fashionable and cozy – and as much as I wish she would just come fix up our house, I know I’ll take even more pride in doing it myself. So this guide is perfect – she gives guidance while still allowing your personality to shine through in your designs.

five | a discovery of witches by deborah harkness

Witches, vampires, demons, oh my! I’ve just started this book on my kindle and I’m quite into it – it pulls you into the story and takes you to an alternate world where all of this magic is real. It starts when a witch who has denied her powers, Diana, stumbles upon an ancient manuscript of alchemy in Oxford’s library… it’s an artifact that has been lost for centuries, and she is the only one who can summon the manuscript.

And an extra!

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

This copy of Alice is designed by Rifle Paper Co. and I’m obsessed. I was so excited to add this to my Alice in Wonderland collection! A true classic.

What books are you reading this year? Drop me a recommendation in the comments!

Happy reading!

xoxo

  1. You know how much I appreciate a great read, so I am definitely adding a few of these to my must-read list for the year! I love the book’s artwork that you got, absolutely adorable and from Rifle Paper Co. I would expect nothing less! Plus, I love Joanna Gaines she has such a dream life! -Jess

  2. I read Discovery of Witches (and the other two books in the trilogy) a few years ago and loved it! It’s now a series on the Sundance Network which I can’t wait to get started on ( as soon as we finish Game of Thrones for the third time)!
